Compare this to the instructions in the owner’s manual.
"Installation of the thumb throttle" … additional steps may be necessary for different styles of handlebars
NOTE: Handlebar should measure 7/8 of an inch, (outside diameter (unpainted)
Tools needed:
-
Spray bottle of water,
-
Flat metal object (thin screw driver usually will work)
-
Allen wrench (#6 metric)
NOTE: The throttle will go on the right side of the handlebar.
The positioning of the hand brake and gear shift, and the shape of your handlebars may dictate some variance of the following instructions.
I. Remove the grip.- Some grips have a removable end cap. Remove that.
- Carefully insert the thin flat metal object under the grip.
- Pry the grip until an open space is showing.
- Spray water in the open space under the grip.
- Pry the grip up in another spot and spray there also.
- When it appears to twist easily, pull and twist the grip to remove.
II. Remove the gearshift from the handlebar
NOTE: This is necessary to position the thumb throttle between the hand brake that will be on the far left and the gear shift which will be to the right. Handlebars are all different so you will need to position each item to fit on your particular handlebar.
III. Slide the thumb throttle on the bar and loosely tighten it until you are sure that is positioned so the gear shift and grip will fit nicely.
-
You may need to move the hand brake to the left to make additional room for the throttle.
-
Check for accelerator by pulling the lever to full throttle a few times to make sure that it won’t bind and give you full throttle when you don’t want it.
-
If it binds and there is no extra room to have adequate clearance, remove it and carefully file the rounded part of the thumb throttle that is binding. Do a little at a time and test until it has adequate clearance.
-
IV. Once all will clear properly, tighten down the hand brake, the throttle and the gear shift.
V. Slide the grip back on (again, spray water inside to make it go on easier)
